MI History
The MI Lottery began in 1972 after a successful amendment to the Michigan constitution by a 2-to-1 margin. The goal of the lottery was to provide supplemental funding to education and offer entertaining games to the public.

MI Lottery Secrets
Aside from giving away over $24.7 billion in cash prizes to lucky Michigan Lottery players, the lottery has also contributed more than $15.9 billion to educational funding. In 2010 alone, the lottery contributed over $700 million to education.
MI Lottery Rules
Michigan Lottery players looking for a quick game can choose from club games and instant games.
Club games include pull tab games and Keno, which can be played at many Michigan restaurants and bars. Not all bars offer club games, but most MI residents should be able to find at least one nearby location where they can play.
Instant games allow MI Lottery players the chance to see whether or not they’ve won in less than a minute. The MI Lottery introduces roughly one game per week. The instant games come in a wide variety of quick and fun game types.
Lottery players can also take a shot at winning millions by picking a winning number for drawing games like Powerball and Mega Millions. By matching all or nearly all of the winning numbers, MI Lottery players can win huge cash prizes.

Past MI Lottery Winners
On May 13th of 2011, a traditionally unlucky Friday the 13th, one Michigan resident was able to find enough good luck to win a $27 million jackpot from Mega Millions. It looks like somebody has the Michigan Lottery system completely mastered.
In April of 2005, Ralph and Mary Stebbins won the biggest jackpot in MI Lottery history. They won a $208 million jackpot.
Another Michigan resident won half of an even bigger jackpot in May of 2000. Larry Ross won half of a $363 million jackpot playing The Big Game, with the other half going to someone from a different state.
Fraud Alert
The MI Lottery advises all lottery players to avoid giving out personal information to people offering lottery prizes.
Any claims of being able to guarantee lottery wins or suspiciously high chances of winning millions should be met with suspicion. Any offers from foreign lotteries is likely to be a scam.
Another popular scam occurs when a scam artist approaches someone and claims that they have a winning ticket but need money to pay a winning claim fee. There is no such fee; no money is required to claim a winning ticket aside from the initial purchase price.
MI Lottery players should also keep in mind that playing foreign lotteries via internet or mail is a federal offense.
MI Lottery Trivia
* Due to legislation from 1988, Michigan residents have the right to remain anonymous when claiming large cash prizes. However, those winning jackpots from Powerball or Mega Millions must allow their name and city of residence to be published in order to claim their prize.
* Contrary to popular belief, foreigners and people from other states are eligible to win MI Lottery prizes. The Michigan Lottery system only requires that the ticket be purchased from an official MI Lottery retailer.
